Pink Aunt Ginny's Purple 2 plants, potato leaf.  Moderate sized fruits, usually 8-12 oz.  Most have some scalloping. Some radial cracking with wet weather.  Very good flavor, rivaling that of Brandywine, although with unfavorable weather this year they are not as good as noted in past years.  27-Aug 5 photo x
Other color Aunt Ruby's German Green 2 plants. Mostly moderate sized fruits, a few larger approaching 1 lb.  Some radial cracking with wet weather.  Very good flavor but not that incredible spicy flavor observed some years.  19-Aug 12 photo 1 x
Pink Bali Sharp (acidic) flavor that I do not like.  Small (2-4 oz) fruits with much scalloping.  Most were directly discarded, will not grow this again.  14-Aug 29-Aug * 47 photo 3 LQ
Other color Black Cherry Good sweet flavor.  Shoulders usually stay green, d not take on purplish brown hue of rest of fruit.  These taste poorly if left on shelf too long (don't wait to eat more than a few days).  Grew 2 plants.  Relatively shy producer relative to most other cherry tomato varieties.  28-Jul lots (did not count) photo LQ
Pink Brandywine (PA WE R strain) Potato leaf plant.  Planted in partly shady, drier corner of garden (near cherry tree and its roots).  Very late to mature this year.  11-Sep 2 x
Red Bulgarian Triumph Nice red large cherry, location in garden this year may have contributed to below-average yield relative to that observed in past years.  Usually is very good producer, with fruit in large clusters like that of cherry tomatoes; this year, mostly only 3-4 fruit per cluster.  14-Aug 5 photo LQ
Pink/purple Cherokee Purple 2 plants. Good producer, low fruits showing slug damage.  Good but not exceptional flavor this year; weather-related?  Some catfacing of fruits observed.  Not much cracking observed despite very wet weather around harvest dates.  Late in season (Sept) ripe fruits are yellowish near stem end, somewhat greenish yellow in middle, and lighter pink/brown toward blossom end than what is seen earlier in season.  19-Aug 16 photo 2 has
Yellow Coyote Many clusters of small (ca. 1/4 to 1/3-in dia) light yellow cherries.  Earthy flavor is something that some individuals may very much like, but I find it very unpleasant.  28-Jul very many photo not tracked LQ
Red Costoluto Genovese Fruits typically 4-6 oz, highly scalloped, usually ripen evenly (unripe shoulders rare).  Good rich flavor but not at all unique.  16-Aug 11-Sep 15 photo LQ
Yellow Garden Peach Fruits 1-2 oz, light yellow sometimes with slight peach/orange blush, sometimes with a little green in shoulders, slightly fuzzy skin, juicy, seedy, nice mild flavor.  Prolific producer. 25-Aug 11-Sep 50 photo 1 LQ
Red Giant Paste 6 plants. Large red elongated paste-type fruits that often come to a point, thick walls, not very juicy, good flavor for a paste var. A couple plants gave only slightly elongated fruits (seed not saved from these).  Grew 6 plants.  19-Aug not tracked photo has
Orange Glory of Moldova Small 2-4 oz near round orange fruits, juicy, average flavor. 16-Aug 1-Sept * 16 photo 1 has
Yellow/orange Golden Queen Medium yellow fruits (4-5 oz) with orangish blush or streaking at blossom end of fruit. Good producing later variety. 3-Sep 11 photo 1 x
Red Grandpa's Minnesota Hardy Cherry Round red cherries about 3/4 inch in diameter, good flavor 8-Aug many - not tracked photo not tracked LQ

Yellow Hugh's 2 plants. Large (12-16 oz) bright yellow fruits, relatively late maturing, very good tasty flavor, a perennial favorite.  30-Aug 15 photo
Other color Japanese Black Trifele 2 plants.  One plant produced one very early and one very late fruit; stunted in growth.  Second plant produced several fruits.  Fruits (mostly ca. 4-5 oz) are pear shaped, greenish tops that do not ripen, lower 2/3 are brownish hue, flavor is average.  Fruit appears to be more susceptible to anthracnose than most.   26-Jul 11-Sep 12 photo 6 LQ
Red Lillian's Red Kansas 2 plants.  Red fruits, 6-10 oz, somewhat elongated with round cross-section, yellow tops near stem end, very good flavor, fairly productive.  16-Aug 24 photo 2 LQ
Yellow/orange Lillian's Yellow Heirloom Potato leaf plant.
Other color Longkeeper Fruits light orangish-silvery color, tend to fall from vine when still green, usually about 3 to 4 oz and round.  Very late to mature fruit for the size of fruit produced.  7-Sep 15
Pink Magnus 2 large, healthy potato leaf plants.  Fruits light pink ripening to dark pink, round, 3 to 5 oz, juicy, very good flavor, very productive, later than most in producing mature fruit of this size.  25-Aug 14 photo has
Red Martino's Roma 6 plants. Average paste variety in many ways - size 3-4 oz, typical appearance for paste tomatoes, not particularly tasty.  Fruits often fall from vine as they ripen.  19-Aug not tracked photo
Red Mayo's Delight 8 plants.  Large (to 1 lb) heart-shaped red fruits, yellow tops near stem end, some susceptibility to anthracnose, meaty and juicy, often provide limited amount of seed (liapparently due to limited pollination), excellent flavor.  26-Jul 50 photo 6 has
Other color Pineapple 2 plants.  Fruits variable size (usu. 6 to 14 oz), yellow with red marbling from blossom end, somewhat flattened, nice mild flavor typical of bicolors, quite susceptible to cracking in wet weather.  Also troubled more than most other varieties by slug damage (see photo of sliced specimen).  25-Aug 6 photo 2 x

Yellow Sungold (F1) 2 plants.  Abundant harvest of small (ca. 1 cm) dia. Cherries, outstanding flavor. Very late harvest for this variety, did not come on real strong until late August, beginning to taper off around 10 Sept. 21-Jul very many no

Pink Tiffen Mennonite 2 large, healthy potato leaf plants.  Fruits slightly flattened, usually with green tops, resistant to separate from stem, usually 12-16 oz, excellent flavor rivals that of Brandywine.   27-Aug 10 photo has
Best flavored varieties in 2004: Hugh's, Mayo's Delight, Tiffen Mennonite.  Honorable mention: Brandywine (pink), Magnus, Red Brandywine.
2004 weather in Kalamazoo county (SW Michigan):  Abundant rain (rarely excessive here in Augusta) but cool start for the garden after transplant in late May (our avg last frost date is May 15).  One week of hot dry weather in mid-June, then weather was persistently cool (temps rarely above 70s, nights usually in 50s, sometimes cooler) until the week immediately before Labor Day, when it FINALLY made it into the mid-80s again.  We never had hot weather (above the low 80s, which were rare in themselves) in July or early to mid-August!!  Cool nights have been the rule this year, so all crops that require relative high degree-days are significantly later than usual.  First harvest dates shown above are typically close to 2 weeks behind what I've usually observed.  However, we have had abundant rain almost all summer, and I only had to irrigate the garden once.
